Is a business name a company?

No. It is only a trading name. The underlying holder can be an individual, company or trust.

Can I register a business name without an ABN?

Usually the holder entity and ABN need to be confirmed before registration.

Does a business name need renewal?

Yes. If it is not renewed on time, it may become unavailable or be registered by someone else.
